FTP celebrates it's 40th birthday

Today is the 40th anniversary of FTP, the original file sharing protocal (File Transfer Protocol). It's described by RFC114 which was published on this day in 1971 by Abhay Bhushan.

It's still used by many applications and still used to publish (upload) to the web documents and files which are usually made available to web browser which use HTTP to read and present our web-pages.

Prior to graphical web browsers, the most common tools to 'browse' were telnet, gopher, irc and ftp. Ftp was synonymous with 'download' and 'upload'.
