1. Reliablity

ISNIC's primary goal is to guarantee the technical availability and reliability of the ".is" top-level domain. The Internet Domain Name System (DNS) service must always be available and our customers and users expect as close to 100% uptime as possible. The DNS service underpins all online services provided under the ".is" top level domain, including e-mail and web sites. For this reason, no other activity, product or service undertaken by ISNIC may take precedence over the DNS service.

2. Trust

All employes of ISNIC are familiar with and understand the rules governing the domain registry and conduct themselves accordingly. All customers shall be treated equitably and without discrimination. The company will look out for the interests of .is-domain registrants, whether dealing with local or foreign individuals, businesses, institutions or the government. The credibility of the ".is" top-level domain derives on the one hand from the trustworthiness of ISNIC and ISNIC's employees, and on the other from the technical reliability of the service.

3. Service and Responsibility

As stewards of core Internet infrastructure, in this case the Domain Name System, we think of our work in terms of service and responsibility, not property or ownership. If asked „who owns the Internet?“ we answer: „the question is inappropriate.“ The internet is for everyone, always and everywhere. We would rather discuss duties and obligations, and are contractually obliged to administer the ".is" top-level domain in an equitable, just, honest, and competent manner. ISNIC operates in the spirit so eloquently expressed by the late Jon Postel:

„Concerns about "rights" and "ownership" of domains are inappropriate. It is appropriate to be concerned about "responsibilities" and "service" to the community.“   - Jon Postel, RFC1591 (page 5)
